PHNOM PENH: Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, said that in addition to liberating the people from the genocide during the Pol Pot regime, Prime Minister Hun Sen continued to help Cambodian people twice more by ending the civil war with win-win politics, and more recently with his handling of the Covid-19 crisis.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new school building at Hun Sen Prey Toteung High School in Kampong Cham province on Thursday, Hun Manet said giving birth to, and saving the nation, is the greatest merit in the political life of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He said that liberating Cambodians from the genocidal regime, ending the civil war and rescuing people from the global Covid-19 pandemic was a dangerous endeavor, but Prime Minister Hun Sen did it right and effectively.
He said, "In the most difficult circumstances, the leaders of most countries are reluctant to make clear decisions, but Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to place measures to prevent, treat and vaccinate people with caution, with comprehensive study and responsibility based on the most important priority: to save the lives of people in a timely manner, not delaying the wait until normalcy is restored in Cambodia through the closure of the 20 February event and the reopening of the country, while the rate of new infections is low and there are no new deaths despite the outbreak of the new virus."
Since using his life as capital to save the lives of the Cambodian people, Prime Minister Hun Sen traveled to Vietnam on 20 June 1978 to seek help to liberate the country. Starting from this dangerous move, he brought back victory over the Khmer Rouge regime on 7 January 1979, however, the civil war in Cambodia continued until 29 December 1998. Under the Prime Minister's win-win policy, Cambodia regained its full unity under the government, leading to the country’s current level of development and prosperity.
The global crisis of Covid-19 plagued the lives of the Cambodian people again in 2020 and even stronger in 2021. However, under Prime Minister Hun Sen’s decision to prioritize vaccinations and the campaign to widely-inoculate the Cambodian population, the crisis was controlled, and the country was able to fully reopen on 1 November 2021. In recent weeks, there have been no reports of new deaths from Covid-19 in the Kingdom.
